Dr. Pankey English Team Lead, Upper School

Dr. Rachelle Hallmark Pankey has been teaching at Katy Classical Academy for nine years. Prior to joining KCA’s staff, she taught private English courses for home educated students in the Katy area. Dr. Pankey and her husband of 34 years home educated their two children from kindergarten through high school, while living in New York, Georgia, and Texas.

 

Dr. Pankey has held a permanent Texas state teaching certification for secondary English, speech, reading, and journalism since graduating with a B.S. in Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. In 2019, she completed an M.Ed. in Reading and Literacy from Sam Houston State University. In 2022, she finished a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Literacy from Sam Houston State University. Her dissertation research focused on developing and assessing methods of dysgraphia intervention.

At KCA, Dr. Pankey serves as the Rhetoric English team lead. She teaches English courses for all levels of the Rhetoric program, including two dual-credit college English courses to KCA’s seniors. She is employed as an adjunct professor for these courses by both KCA and LeTourneau University. Dr. Pankey developed the KCA Guided Research Project at KCA. This Senior Capstone Project is an exciting opportunity for graduating students to prepare for college and to showcase the skills they acquired throughout their years of education. Dr. Pankey also created KCA’s Mock Trial Program, and she teaches SAT Preparatory courses.

In her free time, Dr. Pankey serves at her church as an elder, as a member of the teaching team, and as a vocalist for the worship ministry. She is the president of the board for Bluefields Education Project, a non-profit organization which supports Christian education in Nicaragua. She has been a member of Mensa since 2016.
